Weight Loss - How I Lost 3 Stone.

If anyone has seen any of my socials, it's quite apparent that i've lost quite a substantial amount of weight in the past 12 months. In this post i'm going to say everything I did and all the small changes I made that helped me get rid of the excess weight that I was carrying!

BACK STORY --- Firstly, I've always been seen as 'bigger' and always sat in between 11 and 16 stone between being 11 and about 16. Every female in my family are between them two weights, and I always thought it was a genetic thing. I just want to start by saying there is NOTHING wrong with being in that weight bracket! Everyone is beautiful in their own way and as long as they're happy in their own body, that's all that matters! My cousins absolutely rock the way they look and I couldn't be any prouder of them for being comfortable in their own body. However, on the flip side - I really wasn't comfortable with the way I looked. I've never had much self confidence in general, and a lot of this was due to my weight. I got bullied quite severely in school for how I looked and it proved to be really detrimental to the way I progressed through school (in regards to my mental stability and self-confidence). I turned to self harming, starving myself and taking the upset I had inside out on myself and punishing myself! It took my years to realise that I should never have taken that pain and anger out on myself as I had every right to be comfortable in my own body! It was everyone else's issue, not mine. When I figured this out, I saw that I needed to make personal changes so I didn't give anyone anything to bully me about. I knew that I was overweight, and I wasn't comfortable in myself. BUT that allowed the kids to see that, giving them a weaker area to catch me on! So if I built up my confidence, and made myself happier - they wouldn't be able to do that to me! Although it took me a few years to find out exactly what worked for me, I finally found a few patterns that really worked for me in January 2018! So after the word vomit above, here's to the bit you're more than likely looking for!

1) I stopped taking sugar in my drinks!

I never really considered my sugar intake to be a contributing factor to my weight as it just wasn't a major discussion point for me! I think I was just naïve to the whole sitch, so I just didn't change it for years! Then this year I did a little bit of research on both sugar intake in general, and my own sugar intake. Added sugars should not take up more than 5% of the calorie intake per day, so this works out at about 11g for an individual (about 12 years old +). I used to have around 6/7 cups of coffee a day, with 2 sugars each time - this equated to 48g-56g of sugar every day on just coffee, this is without any food or any other intake! I was overly shocked when I saw this figure as it made me realise where one of my overlying problems was coming from! I made a quick decision to remove this excessive amount of sugar from my drinks and move to sweeteners, which slowly kick started the weight loss but then I just moved to having no sugar in my hot drinks. This helped me loose just short of 1 stone (13lbs) through just removing sugar from my hot drinks. CRAZY! It just proved to me that I didn't have to make HUGE lifestyle changes to see the results I wanted! I also wanted to add it in here, I changed from whole milk to semi-skimmed. I knew that it was a better alternative to whole milk and I believe this contributed to the weight loss in this period!

2) I ate breakfast!

As much as this sounds like a weird step, I began eating breakfast. I did some reading and found that apparently eating breakfast kick starts your metabolism and helps you digest your food quicker. So I went food shopping and picked out a few healthy cereals, like Bran Flakes and Special K, and made a start on this! As much as I wish I could sit here and say I only ate healthy things - I fully did NOT... I did often get the more unhealthy options and dabbled in the less- recommended for weight loss cereals and then got mad when I didn't see a huge difference, yet some was still apparent! This just proved to me that even though I was practically eating shit, I was still seeing results. Once I saw a little change from unhealthy products, I moved onto focusing on just eating the fibre rich cereals and MY GAAAAWD, I saw the results I wanted. When I started step 1, I was sitting at 15 stone 4lbs (or around that point), so when I began my breakfast step I was sitting at 14 stone 5lbs. I was shocked after 3 months had passed and I had lost another stone! So at 13 and a half stone, I was determined to lose the rest but still felt hella proud of myself for losing so much already, as it had only been 6 months and I was 2 stone lighter!

3) I was HAPPY!

To me, this is the most important thing that helped me lose weight. I think its important to realise that without the right mindset, the results you want to achieve will be so much harder to reach! I took a step back, broke up with my boyfriends, had a bump in my job, had exams at University - everything was going to SHEEET... So I decided to be an adult about it for the first time in my life and take control of the things I could. I sorted my situation with my boyfriend and worked out better terms for us both, I worked harder to achieve different tasks for work and I revised so much to try and get amazing grades in my first year. I am NOT a comfort eater which I think worked in my favour here, but I was too busy to think about food. I was too happy, once I sorted all my issues out, to be upset about how much weight I was losing or gaining, I was just settling down. I saw a natural change in my weight when I was happier as my natural curves came out and I just looked a lot healthier! Over the following 6 months, I lost weight naturally and it just came off! Overall, ive gone from 15 and a half stone, to currently being 9 stone 8lbs! I have not done exercise or massively changed my diet so I do believe that a healthy mind set and determination really help you reach your end result! I do know if I did more exercise, I would've lost more weight and toned up a lot more than I have, but that doesn't change the way I feel about my achievements as i'm so proud of myself for doing something for ME!

I feel so much better now than I did before through these 3 simple steps! I know that this post isn't a 'how to' as such, but I get so many questions daily on how I lost my weight so this is more of a description that I think will be so much easier to read and listen to than my rambly voice!

The above 3 are prior to weight loss; all betwenn 11 1/2 tone and 14!

The above 3 are more recent photos all between 9 and 10 stone!
